Terms

Last updated 2026-08-31

These are the terms you agree to by using Ullage. They are short, and they are written to be read rather than to be skipped — if a sentence here needs a lawyer to decode, that is our mistake and we would like to hear about it.

Nothing here takes away a right your own country gives you. Where a local consumer law says more than this page does, the law wins.

What Ullage is

A pantry tracker that runs on your device. You record what you have and what you buy, and it works out roughly when each thing will run out and puts it on a shopping list your household shares.

You do not need an account, and the free version is not a trial of anything. It stays free, and it keeps working with no network.

The predictions are estimates

Every date Ullage shows is arithmetic on your own purchase history — a guess that gets better the more you record, and a guess all the same. It will sometimes be wrong, in both directions, and a run-out date is not a promise about your kitchen.

So do not rely on it for anything where being wrong matters: medication, baby formula, anything medical, anything with a safety date on it. Read the label on the thing itself. We are not liable for a shop you did or did not make because of a date on this screen.

Your pantry is yours

What you put into Ullage stays yours. We claim no ownership of it and we do not sell it, rent it, or train anything on it. What we do with it — which is very little, and mostly nothing at all — is set out in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

You can erase the local copy or the server copy at any time from Settings, and you do not have to ask us first.

Using it fairly

  • Do not try to break into other households' data, and do not attack the service.
  • Do not resell Ullage, or pass off a copy of it as your own. The app, its text and its drawings are ours.
  • Do not use the receipt reader to launder somebody else's data through us — scan your own receipts.
  • Ullage is for adults running a household and is not aimed at children under 13. If you are under 13, this is not for you.

If you share a household, everyone in it can see and change the shelf. That is the entire feature. Only invite people you would hand the fridge door to.

Keeper, if you buy it

Keeper is a paid extra. Everything the free app does stays free — Keeper adds the long shelf, the almanac, last year's list, and reading a receipt from the photo.

  • One year at a time, and it renews itself. Keeper is an annual subscription. Unless you cancel, it renews automatically at the end of each year and you are charged again at the price then shown.
  • One price for the whole household. However many people are on your shelf, it is one subscription. Sharing is free and always will be.
  • Cancel whenever you like. On iPhone and Android you cancel in your App Store or Play Store subscription settings — we cannot do it for you, because the store holds the payment, not us. On the web, write to us and we will stop it.
  • Cancelling does not cut you off. It stops the next renewal. You keep Keeper until the year you already paid for runs out.
  • If a renewal payment fails — an expired card, usually — Keeper keeps working for 14 more days while the store retries. You are not locked out mid-shop over your bank's timing.

Prices are shown in your own currency by the store before you pay, and that number is the one that counts. If we change the price, the change applies to renewals after it, never retroactively, and you will be told before you are charged the new amount.

Who takes the money

If you buy Keeper on an iPhone or an Android phone, Apple or Google is the seller: they take the payment, they hold your card, and their own terms cover the transaction. We never see a card number. If you buy on the web, we are the seller and we hold nothing but the email address you gave for the receipt.

Refunds

Ask and it's done. There is no reason field and no dropdown — the refund page in the app is one button, and if it was bought on a phone that button hands the ask to the store that took the money, because only they can give it back.

If you are in the EU or the UK you also have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days. Asking for a refund is how you use it here, and you do not have to cite it.

And if the price is the problem rather than the product: write to us and we will give you Keeper for nothing. That offer is real and it has no means test.

The one thing with a limit

Matching a receipt line by line runs on a paid AI service, so it is the only part of Ullage that costs us money every time you use it. Keeper covers 100 of those a year — far more than a household shops. Without Keeper you get 3 to try.

Past the allowance nothing breaks: the receipt is read on your phone instead, which is less accurate and costs nothing. Scanning is never switched off.

What we do not promise

Ullage is provided as it is. We do not promise it will never lose data, never crash, or always be available — it is local-first precisely so that our server being down is not your problem, but no software is faultless and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Keep your own backup if your pantry matters to you: attaching an email address in Settings is what that is for. To the extent the law allows it, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and where liability cannot be excluded it is limited to what you have paid us in the last twelve months — which for most people is nothing.

Ending it

You can stop using Ullage whenever you like: delete the app, or delete your account from Settings, and nothing is owed either way. We may suspend access if someone is attacking the service or abusing another household, and we will say why if we do.

If we ever have to shut Ullage down, we will say so well in advance, give you a way to take your data out, and refund the unused part of any Keeper year.

Changes to these terms

If we change them in a way that affects what you pay or what you are agreeing to, the date at the top changes and the app tells you before the change takes effect. Small corrections — wording, a broken link — happen without ceremony.

Law and disputes

Wherever you live, the consumer rights your own country gives you apply, and nothing on this page reduces them. If something goes wrong, write to us first — a person reads it, and we would much rather fix it than argue about it.
